When I spin the side balance wheel with my hand the needle goes up and down smoothly, but when I use the pedal it either doesn't go or if it goes it jerks, and isn't functional. The light on my Bernina Activa 130 sewing machine won't come on sometimes when I turn on the power switch...? I took the machine to the repairman and he said "the light came on every time I turned on the switch", but when I got the machine home and turned it on it failed twice out of five times. I can tap on the side of the machine and the light will come on. Everything else works fine. Could there be a short in the wiring, or is it an electronic problem?

Bernina 185 sewing machine? i recently bought a Bernina 185 sewing machine. At the time I was happy with the price of the machine and what it had to offer, but as I have been researching more and more I have become more disapointed. The software that is offered is more than 6 years old, so it is not working with my computers (not to mention it wont hook up to my computer because the cored is out of date. i hope i'll be able to find an adaptor). anyway,I have been debating taking the machine back and getting something that has more updated sofware that will be compatable with modern computers. I was wondering if there was a way to work around this? Is this machine compatible with any type of new software?? I am an art student and I wanted the ability to embroider my own designs. Any thoughts on what I should do? What machine would be better for me? Is there an advantage of having a Bernina 185 over any other machine around the same price range?

tension troubles bernina 1008 sewing machine? Hello I purchased a bernina 1008 lat summer and I have am having real trouble with the tension. The bottom tension is correct - however the stitch is not stitching on the top correctly. The top thread is not going through to the bottom resulting in the thread just being looped by the bottom thread. If I do a strait stitch I can pull the top thread out by tugging at bottom. The only time the stitch goes a bit more normal is if I bring down the tension at top to 0 to1. I have fiddled with the bottom tension and have it so it falls down gentelly and stops when I cotrol it. And whatever the tension is at the bottom I still have to have the top on 0 to 1. I sent it back to the bernina sewing shop and they could find no fault with it. When I got it back it was fine for a while - and now it has started the funny stitch again. I am not a total novice when it comes to my bernina and I do know how to thread it correctly etc. But it must be somthing that I am doing wrong - because they (the bernina shop) could find nothing wrong with it. Or else it is broken and very tempremental and only breaks when it feels like it! Any help will be very much appreciated as I love my sewing and it is making me very frustrated. Thank you

First time buyer looking for advice on sewing machines for plush/faux furs? I am a first time buyer when it comes to sewing machines: up until now, I've done all of my sewing by hand. Mostly I make teddy bears and other plush creatures. The longest pile I work with is 1.5 inches. The mom & pop sewing store would not show me any machines, stating I needed to go industrial but this seemed excessive. The Fabricland showed me a Bernina but at close to $1000 seemed expensive. Of course, I have nothing to compare that to. Help!

My Bernina 1130 sewing machine of 20yrs keeps breaking threads and also skip stitches at times. Any advise? Machine has recently been serviced. Costed me £89. Never had any problems until after sewing on wadding. After that, it skips stitches and now keeps breaking threads. I know how to sew, though I am by no means a pro, and my daughter wants to learn so she will take some classes. Tough decision on sewing machine to buy.? My local Bernina dealer is having a company rep come down. If I go through a little weekend afternoon sales pitch I can get $200 off the basic Bernette 55 model. It retails for about 400 so that would be 50% discount. BUT I'm real tempted to go to Wallyworld and just get a $100 machine now, now, now. Bernina Pros I will get lessons from my local dealer, phone help, probably an okay warranty, maybe could trade it in later. Bernina Cons Are they really better than a Walmart basic Brother? All stuff is cheap these days. How can this base model Bernetter really be worth the x-tra 100 bucks? Walmart Pros I can have it now with out the sales pitching. My housemates is a seamstress and can show me alot on my basic machine. If I outgrow it quick I can sell it online just a quick. Walmart Cons Maybe it won't sew as well in some way. I have no clue about sewing so I don't want a machine that doesn't do a good job and frustrates me and discourages me from sewing. I can't "use the one I have". I don't have one.
