Sewing Machines? I want to learn how to sew and I'm looking for a sewing machine. I pland on doing basic sewing. Mostly I'll make clothes. I found some machines at Wal-Mart for under $100 (Brother and Singer). Does anyone know if these machines will suit my needs? Thanks

where can I find information on old sewing machines for maintenance? I'm from Guatemala, and I own 2 industrial sewing machines, one is a SINGER 251-1 AM355046 (thats the only number i found) an the other is an overlock S.p.A.V.Rimoldi & C. Milano 229-00-1.B made in Italy. the thing is that in Guatemala there aren't places that give maintenance to that kind of machines, and I need to learn how to do it myself, from needle them to put them to work; but i don't want to do it because I don't have the manual, or any guide, and I don't have any experience with sewing machines. Do anyone knows some place where i can find the manuals for this two machines, or some guides, or any forum where I can ask about??? Any information will be useful. tnxs.

First time buyer looking for advice on sewing machines for plush/faux furs? I am a first time buyer when it comes to sewing machines: up until now, I've done all of my sewing by hand. Mostly I make teddy bears and other plush creatures. The longest pile I work with is 1.5 inches. The mom & pop sewing store would not show me any machines, stating I needed to go industrial but this seemed excessive. The Fabricland showed me a Bernina but at close to $1000 seemed expensive. question for the advanced sewers on sewing machines? i bought a brother xl-3510 sewing machine and its nice and all... and a neighbor of mine offered me her janome sewist-905, apparently 350 retail price and she got it for 150 on sale. now i bought the brother at about 150, and im wondering whether i should get the janome and sell the brother machine?? i havnt used it much, but i like that it has more decorative stitches than the janome.. however ive heard good things about janome. i am a senior in high school, pretty experienced sewer and i hope to go to FIT for fashion design, so i want to have a good durable, portable machine to lug around, that can help me with whatever more projects ill have in the future... should i keep my brother or buy the janome?
