  1. Hi there: I would suggest this site.. http://www.brother-usa.com/HomeSewing/ProductList.aspx?cat=business They have the best sewing machine. I have tried it, and they are certainly good. Gaby http://www.auckland-builder.co.nz
  2. You'll void the warranty on home sewing machines being used for business purposes. They're just not meant for commercial uty cycles. That said, a lot of people do it. I'd go for one of the non-fussy machines like a midline Viking electronic, the Juki TL98q (which takes industrial feet) or similar in the home machines, but I'm actually lusting after a needlefeed industrial. Analyze what you need your machines to do, and if you'd be better off having some special purpose machines, and maybe even some industrial machines (better stitch quality, better fabric handling). Some reading for you: http://www.fashion-incubator.com/category/machines-equipment/ http://www.fashion-incubator.com/category/newbies/ And yes, you probably need Kathleen's book.
  3. Commercial sewing machines are quite expensive, but they will be worth the investment, Home machines will not stand up to the sewing you are talking about. A good Singer machine may do the job, but you will need top line stuff so be prepared to spend at least $700 to $1200. I used a very good new home machine ($400) last year to do a line of clothing and wore the machine out in about 9 months. My previous machine lasted 26 years doing home sewing. My next machine will be in the $1200 range.
