Sewing Machine For Sale

Question how fix sewing machine table to use a desk?

I have been trying to find a small desk forever and have been searching online, garage sales, etc. I found a desk i love however it is a sewing table. . .meaning once I take the machine out it will have a big hole it. I don't want to put a piece of wood over as it will look tacky. . .any other ideas on how to fix it or cover the hole?

  1. How big will the hole be? Are you going to put a computer on the desk? If so, the computer may cover the hole as long as you're sure it can't fall through. You can cover the hole with a piece of material such as a lightweight laminate, formica and so on. Or you can put a new top on the table, depending on the size of the hole. If you already have the sewing table it makes sense to adapt it but if you think you may want to eventually use it as a sewing table, the changes should be reversible. If you are still looking for a desk it makes more sense to find one that appeals to you that won't require any adaptation. Shopko and the other big box stores have a variety of easily assembled furniture in a variety of styles and colors.
  2. when you take out the sewing manchine/unbolt check to see with the brackets holding the s/m if you can use this or not//////// also you might have to change the whole top if so go to a local tradesman and ask them .
  3. Most sewing tables have a top that's on a hinge that opens up and then exposes the sewing machine. If this table doesn't have that, then don't buy it. If it does have one, then what you can do is buy a piece of good quality plywood (oak, etc.) to cover the whole top and stain to match the rest of the table. Move the hinges so they, along with the fold-out top is attached to the new plywood instead of the table base.
