What are tips to buy sewing machine?

I have googled it but it's so many info I got confused. I only need it for embroidery and quilted work to decorate the house plus some materials to sew and fix my little sister's evening gowns - she's got quite a lot of gowns but some of them she will give me if I can alter it!

1. Depends on what type of embroidery you want to do - if you are looking for computer embroidery the machine is going to be expensive. If you want a good basic machine, Sears Kenmore brand makes excellent machines. Stay away from Singer which used to be the world's largest. Time has not been kind to the brand.
